Living in the rural community of Las Botijas, Comayagua, Honduras, Rosalina shares a modest home with her parents and her 16-year-old son. Like many families in the region, they relied on growing corn and beans for their own consumption. When work was available, Rosalina joined her father as a day laborer, but the income was unpredictable and rarely enough to meet the family's basic needs.
Searching for greater opportunity, Rosalina migrated to Mexico for several years. Like countless rural families, she even attempted to reach the United States, hoping to earn enough to provide a brighter future for her son.
Then she heard about the construction of the La Fortaleza Harvest of Hope Center.
At first, she was skeptical. Many people believed the project would never become reality. Still, she attended an informational meeting alongside her father.
When I saw the investment taking shape, I realized this was the opportunity I had been praying for—to learn new skills and build a better future for my family.
In April 2026, Rosalina joined the Harvest of Hope Center as one of its first producers. Today, she is cultivating tomatoes while learning modern, climate-smart farming techniques that were once beyond her reach.
Now preparing for her very first harvest, Rosalina is beginning to see the results of months of hard work. More than the promise of income, she sees something she once thought impossible: the chance to build a stable future without leaving her community.
For Rosalina, this opportunity is about much more than growing vegetables. It is about creating a legacy for her son. She dreams of expanding her knowledge, becoming a successful vegetable producer, increasing her yields, and generating enough income to provide lasting security for her family.
She also hopes many more rural families will receive the same opportunity.
