2021 Executive Director Fall Report

Dearest Agros supporters,

I’ll share an inspiring story from Guatemala in a moment, but first I want to update you on what else you’ve been a part of this year… and it’s very exciting!

This past year has been about going further and faster.

After the struggles and hurdles of the pandemic, this was the only way to respond to the urgent needs of families in Central America.

And your response was beyond my expectations!!

Thanks to your overwhelming generosity, I’m pleased to report that this past year Agros has deepened the transformational impact of our ministry. This means we’ve reached more people, in more communities, faster than ever before.

Thank you for helping to boldly meet the needs of families in Central America.  It’s all thanks to you that women like Catarina are now running their very own businesses!

Catarina is a woman from the village of Ojo de Agua, a small village in the highlands of Guatemala. She comes from a long line of artisans, learning the art of Mayan weaving from her mother using the traditional backstrap loom.

As you can imagine, this is a complex process that demands creativity, great skill, and a LOT of patience.

But Catarina was determined and dreamed of starting her very own business weaving beautiful textiles full of vivid colors and patterns.  She just needed some money, and a little encouragement.

You were the one to help Catarina start her first business!

Your gift gave Catarina the opportunity to get a small business loan, through her village bank ‘Las Arvejas’, that she eagerly used to repair her old and broken loom.  With her equipment repaired, your gift allowed Catarina to purchase many types of threads, of varying sizes and colors.

Thanks to you, Catarina’s life has now completely changed.  She has a purpose for the future and a hope that she didn’t have before your gift arrived.

She tells us that she now has enough material to complete three, maybe four, different pieces. And you’ll never guess the best part…

Catarina thinks she has enough materials to weave and sell the textiles needed to pay back her small business loan and even reinvest part of her profits!

As a friend of Agros, you know that profound and transformational change is about opportunity.  And I want you to know that you’re providing women like Catarina with an opportunity to weave a future out of poverty.

Gratefully,

Alberto Solano
