BRINGING RURAL NICARAGUA TO YOU

A baby screaming, toys crashing, roosters crowing – this set the cacophonous scene for my digital introduction to Karen and Alejandro, one of the 50 families beginning their journey in La Bendición, Nicaragua.

You’ll have the chance – thanks to the magic of modern technology – to meet them too next week at our Tuesday, June 28th 12PM PST Direct from the Field webinar. That’s what we were getting ready for on our adventure-filled call last week.

During our prep conversation last week, I was moved by Karen & Alejandro’s beautiful love story and to hear the success this couple is already achieving thanks to your support. I wanted to share a few highlights to encourage you to clear your lunch hour and join us next week!

“FUE MUY NERVIOSO A CONOCER ELLA” (I WAS VERY NERVOUS TO MEET HER FOR THE FIRST TIME)

Karen and Alejandro’s love story is something out of a movie – with a glance the couple knew it was love at first sight. But their chance meeting while Alejandro walked to work didn’t mean that they were quickly running off into the sunset. Karen’s mother had to have her say first … RSVP to find out what.
 

The boys behaved remarkably well during our hour-long conversation … most of the time. We have a babysitter lined up for next week.
 

FINDING COMMUNITY

It surprised me to hear that Alejandro and Karen initially found the idea of living in a community daunting: “I never imagined that there would be so many people and families from so many different parts of the country with so many different cultures,” said Alejandro, “you have to learn to live together.” But as the couple soon learned, living in a community can be beautiful, especially for their kids…
 

Alejandro and Karen were troopers, sweating out our lengthy prep session. They said the office was much hotter than the high open hills and fields of La Bendicion that they were used to.

NEW DREAMS

Thanks to you, Alejandro’s already seen his corn and bean harvests double, and he’s thrilled about the prospect of growing coffee, which is 3x more profitable in the market. But, on a more personal level, coffee represents bigger dreams for Alejandro, of self-determination and ownership of his future … RSVP to learn Alejandro and Karen’s dreams.
 

The blur in the middle is Josari, the baby. She’s 5 months old, and thanks to you, her secure and healthy path through life is already taking shape.
