After separating from the father of her children, she faced the challenges of raising her family on her own. She worked in her parents' fields growing staple crops and even traveled to Costa Rica in search of work. But after three months, she returned home determined to build a future closer to her children.
Without a stable income, life was uncertain. Sometimes she could afford to rent a small home. Other times, she and her children depended on the kindness of relatives and friends, moving from one place to another while she searched for a better opportunity.
Everything began to change when she joined Agros.
She started by growing bell peppers and lettuce. The first harvests were not easy, but Dorling refused to give up. With training, technical support, and perseverance, she continued learning and improving.
In April 2026, Dorling harvested nearly 29,000 pounds of tomatoes, generating a net per capita income of $5.91 per day, a significant milestone that nearly doubled what many rural farming families in Nicaragua earn.
That harvest did more than increase her income.
It allowed her to purchase her own piece of land and a modest home, fulfilling a dream she had carried for years.
Today, while her home still needs improvements, it represents something much greater than four walls. It is a place of stability, security, and hope for her children.
Dorling has already begun a new production cycle and continues expanding her farming business. Her next dream is to improve her home, purchase more farmland, and create even greater opportunities for her children.
Through it all, her faith has remained constant.
"Every day I would pray, 'Lord, please help me buy my own piece of land. I don't want to keep moving from one home to another.' Even while working in the fields, I kept praying. Today, I thank God and the people who gave me this opportunity."
