A Threat of Homelessness

For the past 15 years, Eddy and Ana Karina lived on a relative’s farm, where their three children were born. Their home, a deteriorating wooden structure with a dirt floor, lacked proper hygiene facilities, and their water supply came untreated from a nearby spring.

Despite these challenges, their children attended school regularly, traveling 3 kilometers each way. Accessing healthcare required a 2-hour walk to catch a bus to the nearest health center. Eddy worked as a day laborer, barely making enough income for his family’s survival. One day, their relative announced that the property was for sale, leaving them facing the prospect of homelessness.

Leap of Faith: Instead of giving up, they saw this moment as an opportunity to own something of their own. Filled with hope and faith, they approached Agros, trusting that this dream could become a reality.

New Life Begins: We are thrilled to provide an update with the good news of their new life at the Agros-village Nueva San José, where they were provided with housing that includes access to potable water, electricity, an adequate bathroom, and an ecological stove. More than a house, now they have a place to call home!

Hope Works: They have begun agricultural training and are attending coaching sessions to strengthen their resilience and adaptation process. Karina is currently pregnant and utilizes the health services at the community’s medical post. Their children now attend the school conveniently located within the same community.

Previously featured in the “Tierras de Vida”  video the family was waiting for news about their acceptance into the Agros program.
